If you are single and unsure whether you are ready to start dating again, it can be easy to make excuses not to try. However, sometimes this can mean we stay in a protective shell, and make it even more difficult for ourselves to move forwards. Here are some reasons why you might be standing in your own way.
You don’t practice self-care
Looking after your own well-being may have become a cliché over the last two years, but at the heart of this notion is an important truth. If you are in tune with your mental and physical health, you will be in a better place to form positive and long-lasting relationships with others.
You are seeking perfection
It can be tempting to think that if only your life was in a different place, then you would start looking for love. However, you are unlikely to ever be in that perfect situation where all your life goals are perfectly aligned. Similarly, if your standards are too high about the achievements of a potential partner, it can hold you back from seeing the real person.
You don’t have time
Another easy excuse for not doing something that we have mixed feelings about is to tell ourselves that we are too busy. If you are on a tight schedule, consider meeting people for shorter, more informal dates, such as a quick coffee stop, a walk in the park, or a brief lunch at the most.
Often, we can get the sense of the other person better in more relaxed situations where there is less pressure and build-up. Also, bear in mind that there is nothing wrong with meeting people online, but in the end, relationships can move along much quicker if you make the effort to meet up in person after one or two virtual dates.
